Maya Abdominal Therapy is currently available at
my Cabin John, Maryland location, and in
the Charlottesville, Virginia area by appointment.
I have been practicing this work since September of 2001. It has lead me on a deep journey both personally and professionally. The wisdom and richness of the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy is undeniable. There are so many teachers, both formal and informal, who have contributed to evolving my practice of this work.
I offer this work to you from a deeply spiritual place. One that honors emotional and spiritual life, relationships with others and with yourself, and draws upon the wise healing traditions of old, as well as the wonders of science to lead you on your own journey back to sustainable wellness. In every session, I draw upon the wisdom of many teachers from many different disciplines, and weave what I have learned from them to create a unique way of offering Maya Abdominal Therapy.
My sessions are longer, and I ask for more compensation than most. The longer time allows a safe container to be created between us, so that what needs healing has time to emerge. The root of the issue (dis-ease) is allowed to arise. It is in this way that I am able to suggest many more options and supports for your journey to wellness. I am able to offer what I do through years of experience and research, both personal and professional, tailoring each protocol to your highly specific needs. And I am passionate about your empowerment on your healing journey, and in your life.
“The uterus is a woman’s center,
and if it is out of balance, she will be physically,
emotionally and spiritually out of balance.
~Don Elijio Ponti,
Maya H’men (healer and priest), teacher of Dr. Rosita Arvigo
The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy (MAT) address the position and health of the pelvic and abdominal organs, thus helping to alleviate symptoms such as digestive and urinary tract issues; painful or irregular menstruation, low backache, fertility issues, endometriosis, PMS, difficult menopause, displaced or prolapsed uterus; and post abdominal surgery trauma, and/or adhesions/scar tissue. MAT was developed by Dr. Rosita Arvigo after her apprenticeship with Maya H’men, Don Elijio Panti, her experiences learning from midwife Dona Hortense Robinson, and more than three decades of research and study. Maya Abdominal Therapy is a non-invasive, external therapy that guides the uterus back to proper position. It improves blood flow to pelvic organs, which nourishes the uterine lining, may aid digestion, and may alleviate incontinence as well as other urinary tract issues, and may improve pelvic floor functioning. Maya Abdominal Therapy is a holistic alternative to many surgical interventions and pharmaceutical treatments.

Healing from Trauma
Rosita’s teachings and the Maya techniques also address the impact of emotional, physical, and sexual abuses of any nature in both men and women. Maya self-care techniques, prayer and herbs gently work to release emotional trauma and consequent armoring. While medications and sedatives prescribed to trauma survivor’s assist in short-term care of victims, they do not address or heal emotional trauma and armoring held in the body. Maya Abdominal Massage assists in releasing this armoring in a contained, safe environment. Plant spirit medicine and herbs assist in the process and in re-framing the event mindfully within the context of a person’s life. Issues that may have come to consciousness in cognitive therapy often reach deeper levels of resolution.
Additionally, ongoing commitment to self-care practice of abdominal massage, or any other practice, which helps bring the light of consciousness to that which is held in the unconscious, transmutes trauma and as Rosita has said, “enables us to thrive rather than to merely survive.”
